Scolmore has been supplying its Mode antiviral and antibacterial moulded white wiring accessories since 2006. Over the years the company has continued to develop its collection of wiring accessories specially suited for the demanding needs of the healthcare sector with a focus on hygiene, safety and security. A new Medical Solutions brochure has now been produced which collates all these products into one place to provide a comprehensive guide for contractors, specifiers and designers working on projects involving NHS hospitals, health centres, care homes and GP practices.
The Medical Solutions range comprises Mode antibacterial and antiviral certified switches and sockets; blue ‘Medial Equipment Only’ sockets; red and green outboard rocker switched socket outlets, key lockable switches and sockets; locating sockets; wide rocker switches; Part M visually contrasting wiring accessories and the IEC Lock unique lockable connectors.
With an increasing emphasis on infection control and building cleanliness, Scolmore continues to invest to ensure that its wiring accessory products offer enhanced hygiene properties. Mode plates have been independently tested and have shown to have anti-viral properties against enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. After a contact period of 4 hours, all tested plates were shown to have a 99.9% kill off rate against enveloped viruses and a 92% kill off rate against non-enveloped viruses.
This anti-viral testing is in addition to the anti-bacterial testing already carried out. Mode and Mode Part M are all manufactured using Urea Formaldehyde, which has similar inherent properties to antimicrobial additives that inhibit the growth of infectious diseases. When independently tested, all products achieved a 99.99% kill off rate across all four types of the strains of bacteria – MRSA, E-Coli, Salmonella and Klebsiella Pneumonia.
The blue medical sockets and green outboard rocker sockets were recently added to the collection. The blue medical sockets are available in one- and two-gang switched and unswitched options, with clean earth terminals provided as standard. In line with the requirements, they feature laser-etched white lettering stating, ‘Medical Equipment Only’.
The green two-gang outboard rocker sockets provide installers with a colour differential for supply being switched and are in addition to the red outboard rocker sockets already available.
This comprehensive range of medical solutions means that specifiers, contractors and installers can provide healthcare establishments with products that meet the requirements of BS 7671 (IET wiring regulations). They are intended to be used by healthcare organisations and medical device suppliers responsible for permanent electrical installation of medical devices and associated equipment.
